Chief Executive Officer: Sandy Welch
Sandy Welch has been a teacher for over 30 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Ashland University. She has a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College. Her certifications include a Reading validation in K-12 and Special Education K-12. Welch has taught special education, gifted & talented, Title 1 Reading and a variety of grade levels (k-10). She emphasized technology integration throughout her career, including her time as a Connections teacher.
Educational Operations Director: Lori Schlueter
Lori Schlueter has been a teacher for over 20 years and has taught K-8. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Akron and has a teaching certification. She has taught in public and private schools where she has specialized with teaching STEM curriculum and managed science fairs. Through day school, after school, and summer camps, Schlueter has taught coding with circuits, sensors, robots, imagery analysis, video games, geospatial mapping, and mobile app development.
Institutional Research & Educational Studies Director: Dr. Stephen Spencer
Dr. Stephen J. Spencer has over 10 years of experience in the field of education. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The Ohio State University and his Master of Arts in Management from Antioch University. He interned as a Doctoral Candidate at Cuyahoga Community College before completing his Doctorate in Education from Benedictine University.
Dr. Spencer’s dissertation topic was a quantitative study using a non-experimental exploratory research design and involved researching student success to include student engagement, persistence, and academic achievement. The study was on how the Achieving the Dream initiative launched by the Lumina Foundation impacted student success at a major Midwestern state community college. His study concentrated on how student engagement affects student persistence and grade point average in a student’s first year of college. His research expanded on data provided by the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) at the University of Texas at Austin. At the time of its publication, the study was only the fourth of its kind on Achieving the Dream.
Dr. Spencer taught Microeconomics and American Government for over 4 years at Owens Community College and currently serves as Institutional Research and Educational Studies Director at STEM Accelerated Coding.
Distance Learning Development Director: Tonya Welch
Tonya Welch has been a STEM coding instructor, specializing in Geospatial technology curriculum through Geographical Information Systems mapping and mobile app development. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology/Pre-Optometry from Ashland University. She has experience teaching elementary, middle school math & science, and various high school classes. A biological research background has developed her love for analytical thinking, research, and technology.
